If my father, who is a Type 2 diabetic, an antisocial agoraphobic, and an EXTREMELY thrifty consumer, still manages to be a semi-regular customer here after twenty some years, it's probably for pretty good reason.Specifically, it's the giant portions of high quality food at prices even he can't pass on.The crispy skin chicken, steamed fish over Chinese greens, and soft shelled crab are all amazing and consistently delicious. Very high quality in both ingredients and preparation.Who would've thought the last joint on Wentworth would be the best?Really hoping it's somebody's birthday soon, so I can suggest coming here again.

Friendly greeting, attentive service, reasonable prices and ample portions. All and all a good experience. Happy to be able to add it to my list of we can walk here from home places. As you walk in you enter a large room, all tables no booths, no little off to the side areas, just one big brightly lit room, almost like a banquet hall, there is a small bar off to the left. They make a pretty decent Mai Tai by the way.If you're ordering more than one dish, and you want them served together, you must tell them, otherwise they serve one dish at a time, we didn't know this and didn't figure it out since the server asked my husband what he wanted, then she asked me. Seemed straight forward enough. My husband ordered bean curd (tofu) with vegetables which came up first. I ordered General Tso's Chicken and a side order of pan fried noodles, which wasn't on the menu as a side, but they gladly said no problem, not only was it not a problem they gave me a huge plate full. Which will make for great leftovers at breakfast. I love pan fried noodles with a couple of over easy eggs on them. Everything was very good, vegetables cooked to the right stage of crispness, chicken nice and crispy with just the right amount of spice. Why not five stars? A very simple fix, please get rid of the TVs. I kept trying to enjoy my dinner when something on the screen would grab my attention, oh yes that would be Law & Order, granted they did have the sound off and the captioning on, but it still was a distraction.

My new favorite in Chi-town Chinatown. I'm usually hesitant to go to Chinese restaurants because I don't like greasy food laden with MSG. This time, a group of friends wanted to go there for New Year Eve's dinner and I have no other place to suggest. It turned out to be a wonderful surprise. All the dishes were great. Huge servings. I love the red bean-lotus seed soup as dessert.Good service, especially for a Chinese restaurant.Definitely going back again!

Came here for a party last night and it was packer than usual because of Christmas Eve. They had our tables all ready which was nice. The service is good here and everyone is friendly. The food for the most part is okay, nothing really stands out from other places in CT.We had the 10 course meal and everything was okay. The only thing we didn't like was the seafood vermicelli, which was lacking flavor. It looked really bland and tasted that way. The quail looked good, but was a little salty. My personal favorite was the baby pea tip with dry scallop. The baby pea tips was fresh and it was probably the best I had yet. The lobster with ginger and onion was good too.I would come back here in the future because of the friendly service.

We were in Chi-Town for business and craved some down-and-dirty-eat-like-the-local-ethnics-authentic Chinese cooking. We ordered in Chinese and get some off the menu recommendations. My favorite item: Gold Dusted Crab. Hands down. The crab is covered in egg yolk and is oh-so-tasty-finger-licken good.It was pretty good and quite affordable. Pretty good in a pinch when you're in a city that you don't know. A bit of a trek though and this was our second time back and every time we always have trouble finding a cab to get home.

Been going here for years. Its my parents favorite Chinese restaurant and they know the menu by heart. Just make sure you speak clearly because the waiters will misinterpret what you say. For example today my parents asked for fried flounder. So when our dish came to the table we were all confused because it didn't look like fish. She said, here go "liver fog" all confused we have no idea what she said and what the dish was. Her manager had to come to our table and said, "this is salted pepper FROG!" (the waiter was trying to say river frog). Ya not what we order. What made it worse she didn't want to send it back so the waiter tried to make us eat it and tired to make us like it. Thank God the manager was there to solve our problem. The food is alright just when our order is right. It's an older restaurant; I remember this place since I was a kid. So it's dated. To the decor and the food. My mom says, "they have good customer service." Ya in your day. For people my age I suggest somewhere more hip. Unless you are with your dated parents you have no choice but go. So any one 35 and younger...don't go any one older be my guest! Enjoy the food. Hasn't changed in 20 years this is not my favorites.

Solid Chinese restaurant. So far everything I have eaten here over the years is tasty. However the restaurant changes chefs pretty often. Most of the time they chefs are pretty well picked and can prepare good main dishes. I usually get seafood dishes such as lobster, scallop, steamed fish, etc.

A nice, quiet old-school Chinese restaurant serving up some of the best food I've had down here!Went on a busy Saturday night and it was filled with Chinese families who were celebrating birthdays, family get-togethers, etc. Great atmosphere.Definitely go for the Planter's Punch before stuffing your face with wonderful BBQ Pork or crispy chicken wings. They're serious about their drinks here. The beef was of the highest quality and Mongolian Beef is something we always get. Loved the shrimp in the taro nest (which we got to take back for a friend who couldn't join us - and it kind of disappeared on the way...). General's Chicken is an old stand-by and they prepare it the way it should be done.Service was friendly and quick. Pricing was reasonable.Tell your friends. But not too many!

Located all the way at the south end of Chinatown this is my favorite place in the area to go and have great Chinese. The owner is always at the front counter with a friendly helpful attitude. We've eaten here a lot and the food is always great and consistent. Excellent Hong Kong Steak. If you're in Elmwood Park, their other restaurant is New Star on North Ave. Fantastic. Always ask for the waiter Chee.

A new favorite place to eat! I was eating at Cai and Ming Hing for quite a while and realized, man it's a ton of money and the food portions kept shrinking. So I tried somewhere else. Evergreen has been around for a decade or two.So we went for father's day (the week after) and it was about half full, a mixture of american and chinese people, some tables had both! I ordered chinese food. The food, I have no complaints about the food! Wow just well cooked flavorful food, the service is kinda your typical chinese restaurant service, though the owner said she has been trying to get them to improve.Bottom Line: Food is better here than the other two places, same price, service not as good. I go for good food over good service/price (I want all 3 though, but until I can find that, this is my new favorite place)Salt and Pepper Short Beef Rib - this is done the way it should be, lightly battered and deep fried and fall off the bone tenderness.Salt and Pepper Shrimp - When you can eat the shell, you know it's good. You can eat this shell. It's also not overly spicy like some places.Salt and Pepper Tofu stuffed w/ shrimp and egg - We had never heard of this and decided, let's try it. The tofu is that koren or japanese tofu that is in a roll, not that cubed stuff. It's firmer and they found a way to make it salt and pepper, and stuff it while keeping it all in one piece. Amazing. Try it!Baked Tofu stuffed w/ Shrimp and american broccoli - our parents don't always like spicy so they ordered this one, though they did say they liked the salt and pepper one as well haha. Probably won't be ordering this because the other one is favorable to them, but this was also good. They put egg drop soup on top of the cubes of tofu stuffed with shrimp. Odd but it was nice, added some creaminess.Honey Walnut Shrimp - One of my favorite dishes, along with salt and pepper ones as you can tell. This one is often messed up by restaurants in some way. This was done in an excellent way, and the best walnuts I have had in a long time. Often walnuts are stale, these are nice and fresh and the shrimp, oh the firmness gave it great substance.Bird's Nest (Deep Sea in a Basket) - Shrimp, Scallops, and baby bok choy in a taro basket. The ultimate failure of this in almost all chinese places is they use either non-taro, or they make it once a week and refry them, or they make both mistakes. Evergreen made neither, it was fresh 100% taro and cooked to perfection. My brother is a huge fan of this and he said it was excellent! The nest itself is crunchy and the seafood was cooked perfectly, let the stuff meld a bit and eat the nest and you get such flavor it's droolable (i made that word up).Fish Fillet w/ Chinese Broccoli - a good clean tasting dish with fresh veggies and fish. Nice and did not fall apart when eating it.Egg Plant Casserole - I don't know why we order this except that our parents like it. I did enjoy it, it's actually spicy which I did not expect. I'm not an egg plant fan by any means but I did enjoy this due to the spiciness, they didn't realize it was spicy I think.Sew Chow (Lotus Root fried w/ some mushrooms, peapods, and other veggies) oh it also comes with chinese sausage. This dish is really only good if you can get it to be nice and not overly oily and crispy That's what they did. It's a traditional casual type dish that chinese people like. If you like veggies, try it out.

My favorite Chinese Restaurant in Chicago...So the first time I came here was with an ex. We didn't know where to go so I asked some locals, "Hey, where do you guys like to eat?" and they told us 2 places, of which I can't remember the other one.I'm like, "Evergreen? That doesn't sound very Chinese..." And really, in Chinatown, I'm just kinda curious what possessed the proprietors of this restaurant to come up with the name Evergreen.I mean, that's very christmasy. I would expect German or Bavarian food or something, but Chinese food would kinda be the last GOOD thing I would expect at a restaurant named Evergreen. But it's fricken Delicious!Ya, so first off the menu is giant. I think they give you like 2 or 3 menus and honestly I have no idea what most of the stuff is, but I have managed to figure out a staple of deliciousness:Sizzling Rice SoupYang Chow Fried RiceCrispy Skin ChickenThat's pretty much heaven on the table right there. A great night in the sack with a sexy mama after that and I think I could pretty much die a happy man. Regardless, the food is top notch, but if you go on a weekend it will be LOADED house and they tend to be understaffed so the service may not be as amazing as some might expect. But if you go on a weekday night or whatever you are good to go.Anyway, check it out and I think you'll be pleased.Cheers...

We've had a couple of funeral dinners here in the past several months. The place has consistently and reliably delivered fresh servings, high quality, and good value, while at the same time handling group sizes ranging from 60 - 90 people. The owner Wendy was also very helpful in selecting an appropriate menu for the occasions.

Some of the best Chinese food in the city. What I love about Evergreen is the food is always good. They have some of the best steamed dumplings I have ever had. HANDS DOWN. Seriously if you are not ordering dumplings, you're doing it wrong. I love their mongolian beef and the kung poa chicken as well. The place fills up pretty quickly during the dinner time rush. I love seeing all the families coming for dinner and the owner is really nice. Seriously go to Evergreen if you have never been.

We happen to stumble upon this hidden decent restaurant after the Chinatown Parade. They have a pretty good family size deals and we were able to take home left overs after wards. Service was typical as any other Asian restaurant, mediocre. However, since I am not a big fan of Chinese it's not a place I would trek the train to satiate my appetite for this type of cuisine.

i brought my family here to eat because it was my father's birthday and he wanted to try something new. it was a weekday night and the place was kind of dead.. the place seem pretty big and well organized..we ordered salt and pepper shrimp, steamed flounder, sweet and sour pork, and Chinese spinach.. the shrimp was ok,it was lacking a little on the flavor... i don't eat fish but my parents seems to like it... the sweet and sour pork was pretty good and well balanced.. the Chinese spinach taste average like most of the restaurants in Chinatown..the service was a little slow for being the only few customer there.. but i will give this place another try some day!

I come here and get my peking duck fix, to be honest, I haven't tried alot of their other dishes, usually I just come, get an order of peking duck which I'll get the fried rice/soup/peking duck wraps which will completely fill up the two of us. they use the traditional thin wraps instead of the buns which most of chinatown and Sun Wah in argyle are using. They cut the duck skin with just the right amount of meat and they soup they make with the bones doesn't taste like the typical chinatown msg filled house special soup.Their service is friendly in a kind of way that makes you feel like they all have known you for a long time....but actually not. writing this review makes me want to go eat again...maybe tonight.
